Good News for Text Marketing!

Google Is Now Getting More Searches From Mobile Phones Than Computers1

Senior Vice President and Software Engineer, Amit Singhal, revealed last week that “consumers are now using mobile phones more often to search Google than desktop PCs1.” This is news we all could have guessed, really, because you’re probably using mobile phone to read this blog even though you can probably see your computer.

Why is this good news for those who use text marketing?

This news is good news because it supports that fact that every day more and more consumers are using their phones. As more and more advertisers and marketers try to meet the demands of consumers, its good news to know they’ve been moving in the right direction. Today’s technologically landscape will soon be tomorrow’s. If you’re not mobile friendly already, you’re behind.

Using text marketing is a great way to capitalize on the growing trend of mobile usage. And I really shouldn’t use the word trend because mobile communications are here to stay. I know, I know, it’s a sad thought that the Zack Morris phone isn’t going to see a resurgence to the top of the mobile phone market any time soon (but with all the 80s fashion coming back maybe we’ll be surprised!).

Text marketing could even been part of the reason why Google is seeing more traffic from mobile phones than desktops. Did you know that 74% of people use their mobile phone to help them while shopping? With 79% making a purchase as a result?2 As consumers receive coupons, promotions or news about a sale via text marketing they are likely to pull that text up while shopping. Including links about your products and services into your text marketing messages and you’ve put even more power behind your text marketing campaign… and also helped mobile beat out desktop.

Using proximity based text marketing is an even greater way to reach consumers while they are on site and probably also has an effect on mobile versus desktop Google searching. Check out Pocketstop’s Wi-Fi Alive to learn more about proximity based text marketing and how it can help boost your business’s sales. Consumers look at their phones on average 150 times a day, keep them within an arm’s reach 24 hours a day (yes, even at night!) and like receiving mobile coupons and promotions. If Google’s news and these stats don’t tell you enough let me just say it… mobile is growing and growing fast.
